In light of the recent return to stage 3 restrictions for residents in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire the Victorian Government has announced the Regional Tourism Accommodation Support Program.

What is the program?

The Regional Tourism Support Program provides funding of up to $225 per booking, per night to a maximum of $1,125 for booking cancellations from residents who are subject to stage 3 restrictions and border closures.

Am I eligible for funding?

The program is available to accommodation providers in the 48 Victorian regional and rural council areas plus the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council, Frankston City Council, Yarra Ranges Shire, Nillumbik Shire Council, Cardinia Shire Council, Victoria’s six Alpine Resorts, French Island, Lady Julia Percy Island and Gabo Island.

A claim will only be approved if the following criteria is satisfied.

  • The booking is from a resident of metropolitan Melbourne, Mitchell Shire or from interstate.
  • The booking was made prior to the announcement of the stay at home restrictions. This date may vary depending on the location of the resident however the first announcement was made on 30 June 2020.
  • The booking has been refunded in full.
  • No cancellation fee was charged to cancel the booking.

How much can I claim?

You can only make a claim against the actual loss of income from the cancelled and refunded booking up to a maximum of $225 (ex GST) per night. This is capped at $1,125 per bookable offering (e.g. per room, cabin, serviced apartment, holiday rental).
